The name may have changed a few times over the years, but Maine's oldest and largest pool hall is still thriving, focusing on bringing bigger and better things to the pool community that calls it home. Starting out in 1988 as Spot Shots Billiards on the ground level of Union Station in Portland, this venue quickly became one of the three primary locations to host the Maine State Championships, gaining a reputation as the spot to go for the best competition and great action. In 1994, Spot Shots moved its location to the basement of the same plaza, and in 1995 it hosted the World 14:1 Championship, featuring Efren Reyes and Earl Strickland battling it out in the finals. From 2007 to 2020, it changed ownership and names, becoming Union Station Billiards, which was known as much for its music venue as for its pool tables. While still hosting state championships, multiple leagues, weekly tournaments, and other pro-level events, it also offered darts and arcade games for added entertainment. In 2020, under new ownership, it became American Pool & Billiards, shifting away from the music scene to introduce Snooker and Carom, all while maintaining the rich tradition of pool events that the location had been known for over the years. From 2024 to the present, it has been known as Forest City Billiards, continuing to host the great events the players and community have grown to enjoy over the years. The venue has also updated its facilities and introduced new events, including pool table rental options. Forest City Billiards has become the host location for multiple pro-level events, including the Joss Tour, Battle in the Basement, Queen of the Slate, and the Maine State 9 Ball Open.
